Value-Added Services
For utilities that wish to offer their customers value-added services, GridPoint SmartGrid Platform provides a compelling value proposition. The platform's flexibility enables utilities to offer one or all of the following services.
Online Energy Management
GridPoint SmartGrid Platform supports the GridPoint Customer Portal, the first online energy management portal to provide customers with unparalleled visibility and control over their energy consumption and costs. Customers learn the most cost-effective time to run appliances and can create a personal energy profile to automatically manage energy according to consumption patterns and utility rate schedules. Additionally, the portal provides customers with easy-to-understand environmental data (e.g. the amount of carbon dioxide emissions avoided is equivalent to removing 100 cars from the road for a day) based on their energy conservation efforts.
Backup Power
By leveraging distributed energy storage technologies, utilities can offer instant, clean backup power services to protect critical and sensitive loads (e.g. computers, refrigerators, security systems, well pumps) in the event of an outage. Through the GridPoint Customer Portal, customers can also identify the hours of backup power available in the event of an outage. Additionally, the GridPoint SmartGrid Platform monitors distributed energy storage technologies to provide customers with optimal performance.
Renewable Energy Systems
Customers who desire onsite green power can lease renewable energy systems from a trusted source, the power company. Additionally, through the GridPoint Customer Portal, customers can obtain easy-to-understand environmental data based on renewable energy consumption and production (e.g. the amount of carbon dioxide emissions avoided is equivalent to removing 100 cars from the road for a day).
Preferred PHEV Charging Rates
GridPoint SmartGrid Platform allows utilities to offer value-based differentiated pricing to charge plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). By charging lower rates during off-peak hours and higher rates during peak hours, utilities can reduce peak loads by rewarding customers with significantly reduced rates. Through the GridPoint Customer Portal, customers gain easy-to-understand pricing and environmental data based on their PHEV usage (e.g. driving your PHEV today versus a traditional vehicle reduced your carbon dioxide emissions by 27 percent).
